This report forms part of a series of research packages produced by the NSPCC which aims at better understanding the link between neglect and other forms of harm.In this particular publication the focus narrows specifically to adult-perpetrated intrafamilial child sexual abuse. The emergent consensus from researchers working in the field is that it is relatively rare for children to suffer just one form of abuse and that, rather, children who are victims of abuse are often victims of multiple forms. However, there is a value to exploring the particular types of abuse (in this case intrafamilial child sexual abuse) as only then can the connections between them become clear. The report documents some of the potential impacts of sexual abuse into adult life. However, these are not causal pathways which cannot be altered by an array of positive mediating factors. Thus, each child's recovery from abuse will necessarily be different.
