Start and finish time of webinar
15:00 CEST - GMT +2

On June 9th, 2016, the Europe Chapter of the Migration and Development Civil Society (MADE) network will host a webinar on the important role of civil society and other non-State actors (including NGOs, diaspora and migrant-led organisations, academics, media etc.) as well as non-traditional actors such as local governments in changing the current narrative on migrants and migration and in “lifting the images of migrants and diaspora as bearers of culture, diversity and development”.

To open the discussion, two initiatives will be presented:

The ICMC-FORIM “Myth-busting” tool “Deconstructing 10 Myths on Migration and Development”
The Global Diaspora Day, initiated by AFFORD and supported by MADE

This Open Call will be the occasion to discuss and look for possible cross-sectoral cooperation to:

  • Counter and change negative attitudes and public perceptions towards refugees, migrants and other persons with a migrant background;
  • Engage collectively actors such as media, schools, youth organisations, political parties and the more general public on these issues;
  • Pave the way for discussions during the Brainstorming Session that will take place on 16 June during the European Development Days in Brussels;
  • Prepare for the upcoming UN-led global campaign to counter xenophobia, which will emphasize direct, personal contact between host communities and refugees and migrants.
