At least 250,000 children are reported missing every year in the European Union. Of these, missing unaccompanied migrant children represent the highest number of cases that go unreported, for reasons relating to fear of deportation or detention, inadequate reception conditions, or hopes of rejoining family in another country. Unaccompanied children in any context are vulnerable, but particularly migrant chlidren who are exposed to a higher risk of (sexual) exploitation, violence and trafficking.
This timely international symposium is aimed at fostering discussion around the problems facing young runaways and missing migrant children in Europe, and exploring options for collaboration between EU member states to better ensure child protection. Public Policy Exchange welcomes the participation of all key partners, responsible authorities and stakeholders.
