We are looking ideas, experience, approaches of working with 14-19 years olds. We would like to know methods and activities you use, or would recommend to use.
Here are some limitations:
-- The approach must be applicable to a volatile security/conflict environment
-- The approach should not rely on heavy infrastructure (including access to IT systems and networks) or advanced technology
-- The approach should take into account that some of the youth recently survived war experience, including extreme violence,  losses and damage, and continue to face considerable hardship

Your input would be much appreciated!

Dear all,

These are some books I find useful when working with children and adolescents. They do not give a tool for conducting a seminars and workshops but provide a very illuminating perspective on child development:

As the student intern for Tdh in Bucharest, I got the chance to learn about this tool and how animators can use it to their advantage. I think it's an amazing thing for kids of all ages to learn hands-on! ; it's something that I myself did not get to do much of in elementary school.
I think that these types of games develop transferable skills as well, so they don't have to be just for younger groups. Teamwork, listening, identifying and problem solving skills are a few essential skills I can think of.

Also, here in Bucharest we are in the process of creating a series of short films explaining MGS which I understand will be published on Child Hub soon. I've seen the draft versions and they're great for both kids themselves and animators.

hi,

MGS (Movement Games and Sports) tool was used by Tdh for working with different groups (age groups) of children. There are training manuals on psychosocial skills available in LEARRN>ACTIVE LEARNING>Tools for trainers sections
1. http://childhub.org/child-protection-tools-for-trainers/working-childre…
2. http://childhub.org/child-protection-tools-for-trainers/traditional-gam…
3. http://childhub.org/child-protection-tools-for-trainers/laugh-run-and-m…

The games presented are for smaller age groups but, if you look in the Training manual then there is a module on Characteristics of a game and it can be modified/adapted to different age groups and situations.

In few words it is just about taking some equipment (volleyballs, hoola-hoops, fresbees... etc) and design some games and activities, then gather the youth and run it. While designing avoid any possible rules that could possibly disturb the youth.
