The video by The Master Series that based on doctors Stephen Porges, Peter Levine, Bessel van der Kolk theories provides detailed information on the following points:

  • How traumatic events trigger the emotional and psychical reaction and how this can increase the risk of developing different health conditions such as depression, chronic stress, PTSD, addiction, heart attack, stroke, DIAB, diabetes, and cancer.
  • How the human automatic nervous system respond to danger, manage body functions (heart rate, cognition function, body temperature), impact an individual’s well-being and its regulation
  • Explanation of Dr. Stephan Porges, author of Polyvagal Theory, the analogy of a traffic light for explaining how the nervous system affects us psychologically and physiologically.
  • -Green is the safety zone and in this zone, our social engagement system, heart rate slower, we can make contact with other, signs and hearing is clear.
  • -Yellow is the danger zone and here our heart rate, pain increase, muscules are mobilized for movement
  • -Red is the threat zone and our system goes into immobilization, this zone leads to the severe reduction in metabolic resources that are observed as a behavioral shutdown.
  • Features and functions of healthy ( bouncing between green and yellow zones) and dysregulated (spend much time in yellow and red zones) nervous system.
  • When and how humans respond with Fight, Flight, Freeze, and Shutdown
  • How past traumatic experiences such as Shock traumas (ACE, natural disaster, accidents) or Developmental and relational traumas (abuse, neglect, chronic adversity) could be trigged and activate the red zone
  • The cases that are accepted as Adverse Childhood Experiences (Physical, emotional or sexual abuse, Bullying by another child or sibling, homelessness, neglect, exposure to domestic violence, mental illness in the home, discrimination, etc.)
  • The problems that ACEs lead to (Substance misuse, self-harm, disordered eating, violence, risk of disease, disability, social problems, and even early death)
  • How we can combat earlier traumatic experiences and develop a regulated nervous system that operates in the green safe zones
