A webinar presenting the Bulgarian achievements, problems and standards in supervision

The Know-how Center for Alternative Care for Children at the New Bulgarian University will present two online seminars on the topic of supervision practices in multidisciplinary teams within the social sector in Bulgaria. The main focus will be: To what extent does supervision contribute to improving the quality of services? Are there any specific standards for supervision and which professional community in Bulgaria is committed to the application of these standards in practice?

What is happening in Bulgaria at the moment?

Today, when there is agreement on a crisis in the social sector, the topic of how supervision supports professionals and develops them professionally is important. It is known that supervision, as a new approach to learning from experience, is developed not on the basis of standards accepted by professional communities, but rather by individuals who reflect of their experience and build on it while doing supervision. Often the supervision in the social sphere is done by representatives of different professions. It is time to compare points of view and experience in order to be able to agree on standards for supervision in the social sector.

The first seminar entitled "The practice of child protection supervision in Bulgaria - achievements, problems and standards" presents a study conducted in 2021-2022 by Childhub together with seven regional research organisations, one of which was the KHC. The aim of the study was to describe and analyse supervision practices in Eastern Europe (Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Moldova, Romania and Serbia) and their application in multidisciplinary teams. The results of the regional survey in Bulgaria show a snapshot of the state of supervision and the point of view of professionals who have been offering supervision for years.

You can get acquainted with the published report of the research in Bulgarian here: https://knowhowcentre.nbu.bg/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Supervision-of-multidisciplinary-teams-BG.pdf

In the second seminar, which will be held in September 2022, we will present the efforts to implement standards in supervision in the social sector with a focus on: multidisciplinary intersectoral work with other areas, e.g. education, supervision of CPD teams, etc.
