Safe to Learn is an initiative produced by a large group of partners located worldwide. It aims to stop violence in school environments. Nowadays, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which led to online learning, it is crucial to know how to counter violence not only in schools, but also in other learning environments, such as the home or online mediums.

This publication elaborates upon two areas: the impact of lockdown and recommendations. As mentioned in other publications, the lockdown brought about many socio-economic problems, such as mental health problems, learning problems, discrimination (especially for vulnerable groups), physical as well as online violence, and so on and so forth.

However, when something unpleasant happens, we should focus on solutions. ‘SafetoLearn’ offers these recommendations:

  • Governments should:
    • work to enable a safe online education system for a long-term perspective;
    • create programs to downgrade the side effects of staying home.
  • Teachers should:
    • empower students by keeping in touch with them on a daily basis;
    • explain to children why it is important to respect all protective measures against Covid-19, and convince them to act cautiously and be optimistic.
