Situation Update: Unaccompanied Children (UAC) in Greece: 19 April 2017 [Infographic]

EKKA: The National Center for Social Solidarity, had released a short info graphic report containing imperative figures regarding the presence of unaccompanied minor refugee children in Greece, from January 2016 to April 19, 2017. 

Highlights of the info graphic report:

- Approximately 2,000 unaccompanied children in Greece, as of April 19, 2017

- 1,272 spots available in shelters, as of April 19, 2017

- 937 unaccompanied children who are placed on a waiting list to enter a shelter

  • Among this number, 146 are in Reception and Identification Centers
  • 56 are in protective supervision

- 6,352 unaccompanied children referrals to EKKA, since January 1, 2016 to April 19, 2017

  • 5,866 (92%) are boys
  • 486 (8%) are girls
  • 413 (7%) are younger than the age of 14

- 54 shelters available for unaccompanied refugee children

- 1,272 spots for unaccompanied refugee children in shelters (drastic increase from 423 places in March of the preceding year) 

- 182 places organized for additional volume for unaccompanied children, especially in Athens and Thessalonik
