September 2021 brought a premiere in  the sports environment in  Romania, when 20 sports clubs have signed a public commitment according to which they will take additional specific measures to protect all children who train and play sports. Terre des hommes Romania, in partnership with the National Authority for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Children and Adoptions (ANDPDCA), the Romanian Football Federation, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation and together with specialists in child protection have developed these safety and child protection procedures within European project ”Keeping children safe in sports”.

The first clubs that have made this official commitment and have been offered a safety certificate are: Liceul cu program sportiv – Deva, ACS Allmotion – Cluj, Club Sportiv Minaur Baia Mare, Asociatia Municipală Pentru Sport – Bucuresti, Asociația Municipală pentru Sport – Ilfov, Club Sportiv Educațional Olimpic Triumf, Academia de Handbal Dinamo, Club Sportiv Scolar 2 București, Club Sportiv Scolar 6 – Bucuresti, ACS Academia de Fotbal Luceafarul Cluj Napoca, Luceafarul Fotbal Star – Cluj Antrenor, Club Sportiv Luceafărul Cluj Napoca, Club Sportiv Școlar Gloria Arad, CSM Resita, CSM Timisoara, Asociația Judeteana de Gimnastică Timișoara, Societatea Sportivă Universitară Politehnică Timișoara, Radaway Cluj, ACS Dream team, Clubul Sportiv Scolar Resița.

The " Keeping Children Safe in Sports" gala celebrated this event in Bucharest, in the Bragadiru Palace Garden, where a double premiere took place:

  • The launch of this certification for the sports clubs that best protect children
  • Award ceremony for the children who created drawings in the contest "Become the creator of the logo Child safety in sports!"

The event was attended by over 50 children and dozens of representatives of sports clubs from the country and from Bucharest. The project partners were represented by Adina Codreș, Senior Adviser at the National Authority for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Children and Adoptions, Carmencita Constantin, President of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, Diana Pirciu, Education Manager within the Romanian Football Federation, and Laura Sava-Ghica, Deputy Director Terre des hommes Romania.

The measures that will be taken by these sports clubs are detailed in this document (Romanian). In August 2021, the Romanian Football and Gymnastics Federations were the ones that signed the same policy for child safety and protection, and Terre des hommes was thus introducing the notion of "safeguarding" in the sports environment in Romania.

“Keeping Children Safe in Sports” is a project co-financed by the European Union's Rights, Equality and Citizenship Program (REC 2014-2020) and coordinated by the Terre des hommes Romania Foundation, in partnership with Terre des hommes Greece (Hellas) and Terre des hommes Hungary.
