November 20th marked the finalisation of the National Advocacy Plan of Childhub in Albania, which was facilitated by three Resource Persons of the project, Nadire Kreka, Klodiana Thartori and Edlira Bashmili, in collaboration with the Elbasan Municipality. The focus of this plan was "Piloting the integration of a Child Protection Policy in all preschool education institutions in Elbasan Municipality".
After a thorough assessment of the protection practices applied in the preschool education institutions in general in Albania, the need for including a Child Protection Policy in the regulatory framework of these institutions has emerged, not only as a means to protect the children but also as a tool to inform and increase the capacities of the child wellbeing workforce.
In this framework several consultative workshops and trainings with representatives from kindergartens and nurseries of Elbasan, were organised, where a high number of issues were raised and taken into consideration for integration in the Child Protection Policy document.
On the 20th of November the consolidated document was taken for approval to the Municipality Council of Elbasan Municipality. After this the Child Protection Policy will be an obligatory binding document for the staff involved in the care and education of children. The hope is that the example of Elbasan Municipality will be replicated in the other Municipalities of Albania.
