BiblioTech is the newest initiative of Tirana’s Municipality. It aims to facilitate children and young people as well older generation to enhance their digital literacy, which is a must for 21 Century, by equipping public libraries with PCs and Wi-Fi. Children can learn from IT instructors how to conduct various tech exercises and they also are trained about programming languages, robotics, creation of apps, etc.
This great project is supported by UNICEF Albania. Dr. Roberto De Berardi, UNICEF Representative in Albania and the mayor are very enthusiastic, for it brings children closer to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and keeps them safe from online abuses.
The initiative is part of a larger project called ““Friendly Wi-Fi”, which is also supported by UNICEF. So far there are 42 Friendly Wi-Fi access points across the capital city of Albania. These points provide free internet which automatically filters and blocks harmful and/or illegal online information, so there is no need for parents to activate Parental Control on their devices.
