The draft of the subject curricula in the Sarajevo Canton has not been published for an extended period of time. A new deadline for publication has been set again, and Namir Ibrahimović, the head of the education reform, explained why.

Some curricula were supposed to be published on June 30 this year, and as a reason why they are not the cantonal Minister of Education, Science and Youth, Anis Krivić cited the then change of government and the coronavirus pandemic.

He said in a statement that the new deadline for the announcement was November 15, but that did not happen. Ibrahimovic said that the new deadline is January 30 next year, and it is known why.

"The reason for the move is that the competent ministry did not provide an extension of the solution for the people who worked on it. Unfortunately, although we had agreed in early July to extend the solutions for 90 people working on the curriculum, they were signed only in October. Until then. it was not useful to do anything because no one was obliged to do any part. It was very difficult to tell people to work and under what solution they would work, "he pointed out.

He pointed out another problem.

"Another problem is that the Ministry has had a proposal for a memorandum of co-operation with the OSCE in Bosnia and Herzegovina since July regarding the use of the platform offered by the OSCE mission to all administrative units working on education reform. It should publish all subject curricula. Unfortunately, that only happened in October and it didn't happen earlier, "Ibrahimovic said.

Ibrahimovic pointed out that no reform can be achieved overnight.

"A lot of people are involved and a lot of things have to change. In addition to introducing a new education system that will be based on learning outcomes, you have to maintain the existing system. Children have to go to school, we can't say they wait until we try," he added.

He believes that education reform must be primary for everyone, regardless of who is in power, because, as he stated, all other things come from it.

He mentioned that in six primary schools there was experimental teaching of the mother tongue in the last school year, but that it was stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic, that is. at the beginning of online classes.

He pointed out that it was also planned for mathematics and that teacher education was planned in March and April, but that it was stopped due to the pandemic.
