Yesterday, on the occasion of International Migrants' Day, Drahoslav Štefánek was appointed new Special Representative on migration and refugees.

The new role will focus on the protection of the fundamental rights of migrants and refugees, and developing proposals at the national and European level. Mr. Štefánek is a lawyer from Slovakia with international experience in Human Rights, who once chaired the UN Working Group on an optional protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
