Eurochild members, the University of Deusto and Utrecht University, released a position paper together with other Eurochild Children's Council members, to support the European Commission’s consultation process for Horizon Europe, the next EU research and innovation programme.

The  Strategic  Plan  for  the  Horizon  Europe  Programme demonstrates how the  European  Union  clearly highlights  the  importance  of  Research and  Innovation  (R&I) in  finding  new  solutions  to  the challenges facing Europeans, and how it aims to induce R&I impact long after the completion of the programme.

The European Institutions (the Commission, Parliament and Council) are identifying the main challenges Europeans currently and will soon face. They are deciding on how to allocate European resources for Research and Innovation in 2021–2027. Horizon Europe will have a budget of around €100 billion to articulate these priorities, and children and young people should be fully engaged both in the definition of these topics and in the research. The participation of children and youth is essential to channel the creativity and potential of younger generations as agents of change!
