European consumers do not seem satisfied with the safety policy of TikTok, stating that minors are being exposed to inappropriate content. The Chinese-owned video-sharing app has received many complaints about violating the consumer rights of Europe. Moreover, the app has been accused of due to unclear terms of service, virtual gifts, and misleading data processing practices.
The complaint is filed by BEUC and the organization brought out that the app is contributing to hidden marketing. The BEUC complained that the influencers are starting a challenge where they create content using only specific products. They also mentioned that TikTok is using personal data without informing in an understandable way to teenagers and children. The possibility to download and use the videos of content creators is concerning copyright issues.
“We’re always open to hearing how we can improve, and we have contacted BEUC as we would welcome a meeting to listen to their concerns,” a TikTok spokesman said.
