In an effort to halt population decline, the Greek government is offering an allowance of 2000 euros for the birth of every child, starting in 2020.

The population decline in Greece has been linked to a number of issues, including the lack of quality medical facilities. In an effort to allieviate concerns about parents' ability to return to work, the government is also aiming to improve access to nurseries. The Deputy Minister for Labour and Social Affairs, Domna Michailidou stated:

Every mother should know that without too much expense, she can leave her child in a constructive environment that will take care of the child, that it will comply with all the criteria of child protection and that she will be reassured the child will develop skills in a safe place. This is our aim.
