State Secretary for Social Affairs at the Ministry of Human Resources in Hungary, Attila Fülöp said that there were 23,000 children in the child protection system in Hungary. 15,000-16,000 live in foster care and 8,000 in care homes. The government's goal is to help children grow up in families. The approx. 5,800 foster parents are older people, but more and more young people are taking up this mission.

According to the Secretary of State, the allowances for foster parents have increased, the employment relationship with foster parents has been in place since 2014, and foster parent leave  will be introduced next year.

In the last two years, HUF 1.2 billion has been spent on developing the network from EU funds, including training and the purchase of equipment (refrigerators and washing machines).
