23 Nov 2017

Today in Pristina Save the Children in Kosovo in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Kosovo are organizing a regional Conference "Investing in Care and Development during Early Childhood: Facts, Opportunities and Challenges".

This two-day Conference will join a large and diverse number of representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, the Municipal Directorates of Education, Health and Social Welfare, Leaders and Educators from Preschool Institutions, doctors and nurses from family medicine centers, officials from the Center for Social Work as well as participants from Save the Children Italy, Georgia, the Northwestern Balkans and Albania.

Lately, early childhood is a field in which the world is facing and is given tremendous importance. According to the World Bank, investment in young children is one of the wisest investments that countries can make. Moreover, the availability of high quality, non-cost care facilities for young children from birth to compulsory school age is also a priority for the European Union. At the same time, besides supporting children's development, investment in child care will increase employment, income, growth, and strengthen gender equality.

The Government of Kosovo is also following the world's steps, and in the National Development Strategy 2016-2021 it has recognized that the rise of inclusion in preschool institutions sets the stage for academic success later in life, reduces inequality and increases human capital.
