From May 22 to 26, a training was held in Milan (Lombardy, Italy) as part of the Well-U project on Problem Management Plus (PM+) psychological intervention.
In collaboration with the migrant shelter "Casa Jannacci," 10 educators, educators and social workers participated in a 5-day training, led by psychologists and trainers Manuela Sberna and Gabriele Cammarata, in order to become helpers and support young adults and migrant parents from Ukraine and beyond.
The methodology
The methodology, based on cognitive-behavioral therapy and developed by the World Health Organization (WHO), enables people who are going through a difficult time and feel a sense of stuckness or loss to develop personal and social skills.
Accompanied by their helper over the course of five weekly sessions of about 90 minutes, the person receives tools and techniques needed to develop resilience strategies to cope with daily problems and build, or strengthen, a social network that can support them over time.
Next steps
In the coming months, each helper will apply the intervention with two clients, supported by their trainers through remote group supervision meetings. This will be followed by a second training session to strengthen theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
