Since the beginning of the year, there have been 16 events in Romania through which teachers have promoted inclusive, continuing and non-discriminatory education for Romani students among their colleagues. The meetings took place within the Mișto Avilean project of the Terre des hommes Foundation, and a total of 423 teachers, representatives of school inspectorates and other institutions and NGOs from 14 counties took part.

The organizers and presenters for these events were teachers who had already taken part in a training initiated by the Terre des hommes Romania Foundation in January, within the Mișto Avilean project. Their role was to disseminate information obtained from prestigious trainers – such as Dr. Delia Grigore, Dr. Cristian Pădure, Dezideriu Gergely and Alina Dumitru.

Teachers talked about inclusive, continuing and non-discriminatory methods of education for Romani students during their own events about the the Mișto Avilean project, and the Course Support developed by the aforementioned trainers formed the basis of these discussions.

The events took place in 14 localities: Calinesti (Argeș), Berzunti (Bacău), Oradea (Bihor), Maciova (Caraș-Severin), Constanta, Craiova (Dolj), Brahasesti (GL), Barcanesti (Ilfov), Voinesti (Iași), Somcuta Mare (Maramureș), Danes (Mureș), Napradea (Sălaj), Socond (Satu Mare), Homocea (VN). In Bihor, Galați and Satu Mare Counties, additional events were organized in which 238 people participated, including representatives from the School Inspectorates and other local institutions and organizations.

‘These events show great enthusiasm from the teachers and we are grateful that they volunteered in this endeavour. They have done more than expected so many times,’ said Bogdan Romanică, the manager of the Mişto Avilean project (Terre des hommes Foundation).

The initial training and the dissemination events are part of ‘The program of increasing the capacity of teachers’ for inclusive, continuous and non-discriminatory education for Romani students, implemented within the Mișto Avilean project. It also includes a series of webinars, which are currently in progress. The program and sign up for webinars can be found at: misto-avilean.eu
