Save the Children talked in the press release about how refugees, migrants, 500 unaccompanied children, and 400 children with family could become the victims of smugglers, traffickers while they have been trapped in the Balkans migration route. Moreover, Anita Bay Bundegaard, Director of Save the Children Europe tried to catch attention to the following related issues:

  • Unfortunately, these pushbacks of migrants, including unaccompanied minors and families with children observed not only at the borders of the EU but also between the Member States.
  • The EU’s border policies, Frontex which are also accused of illegal deporting migrants between Albania and Greece, pushed back the migrants, only to attempt again some hours later.
  • The transportation of migrants for cash through Albania is increased which supported by one of the trafficker’s interviews with Exit who proved this as a highly organized activity including a network of ‘safe houses’ in Tirana.

Anita Bay Bundegaard also expressed the recommendations such as EU institutions and members are reforming EU legislation on migration need to address the results of the current rules, including bottlenecks at the EU borders and improve the legislation which can prevent more children’s suffering and risks of violence, trafficking.
