‘Hurriyet News’ reports that over 3,000 people, including children are employed in the Sirnak mines in extremely dangerous conditions. While the exact number of child workers is still unknown, there are reports that children as young as 16 are employed. A 16-year-old worker was interviewed saying he worked during the summer to help his family, earning 30 Liras a day – in the absence of finding alternative employment in agriculture or construction.
