Unaccompanied minors entering the EU should never be detained

19 Sep 2013

‘Alde’ reports on the adoption of a report on unaccompanied minors in the European Parliament. It highlights the need to tackle the specific needs of unaccompanied minors with concrete and targeted measures and in the best interest of the child. This is main message of the report by ALDE MEP Nathalie Griesbeck adopted by the European Parliament. The report responds to the Commission’s mid-term review of its action plan on unaccompanied minors. The report calls for unaccompanied minors to be provided from the first day with an appropriate accommodation, separated from adults. They should also be given access to legal and psychological support, education and health services. Please read Tdh International Federation’s own commentary on the ‘Destination Unknown’ website.
