Community Care reports on Isabelle Trowler’s (Chief social worker for children) and Yvette Stanley’s (national director for social care at Ofsted) opinion on the review of the children’s social care system led by Josh MacAlister. Trowler and Stanley shared their opinion at an online event organized by Grandparents Plus last week.

In Trowler’s opinion, the review could introduce new ideas similar in effect to the Children Act 1989. Towler argued that families and children had not been given sufficient assistance or the assistance provided had not been directed to them the best way possible. She also described the difficult relation between the state and kinship carers and urged public conversation in the matter.

Stanley pointed out the preventive aspect of supporting children in kinship care. She mentioned that Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) had been involved to scrutinize the social care market, this should result in more arranged distribution of places over the regions.
