The coronavirus affects everyone's life. For people with eating problems, this pandemic means some further challenges.

COVID -19 is affecting not just the elderly or vulnerable people but people with serious mental illnesses because they must face uncertainty about whether they can access their safe foods and stay well.

Helping to handle their concerns around food, stockpiling and self-isolation, Hope Virgo author and mental health campaigner prepared an advice list:

  • Write yourself a routine for the day. Creating structure will help you in your work and keep your meals and snacks in place.
  • Get dressed and have a shower each day. You must stimulate your brain to avoid gloomy mindset.
  • Go to the shops and get some food you like and feel able to eat. Buy some essential food, do not let your kitchen runs out of food.
  • If you have a fear of binging, try putting the food somewhere else in the house where it is less accessible. Write a meal plan to stick to your meals throughout the day.
  • Exercise. You can find workouts online.
  • Work out your support network. You need people around you that you can trust and be honest with, people who can keep an eye on you if you need it.
  • Focus on your motivations for staying well. Remind yourself that the eating disorder never actually did anything for you!
  • Communicate! Turn your mealtimes into social activities over the phone or on skype!

Please remember that just because you may be self-isolating, your body still needs to eat.
