Due to COVID-19 pandemic face-to-face counselling and psychotherapy have been stoped, which cause a lot of issues. A 22-year-old boy tells his story to illustrate the online counselling experience.
Counselling is a very important part of his life, so he was anxious about losing it. His fears and insomnia returned and suffered from recurring panic attacks.
Before his first online meeting, his nerves were all on edge. When the meeting started, he felt odd because he found them not as comfortable as face-to-face conversations had been. His first meeting was a killing work, but as time passed, he got used to it and found methods to make it easier, as follows:
- Wear headphones - no one else can hear what you do
- Tell others what you’re doing (if you can) - you can call others’ attention when you are busy with meetings
- Have a pen and paper near you - you can scribble to reduce stress
- Know that your counsellor only wants to help you - be honest with your counsellors
If you have something that you do not want to say out loud, you can easily send them an email in which you explain your problems, and you can come back to it later.
You are not alone with your problems. It’s worth giving a try to online counselling!
