This report was made by a team of 13 children, aged from 12 to 17 years old, from several cities, reflecting the findings of the Survey on the Situation of the Child Rights, surveying more than 1000 children throughout the country, but also their personal and peers’ experience.
The report was submitted to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, within the process of periodic reporting on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in Macedonia. It contains detailed and in-depth insights of children regarding the situation of respecting the children's rights in the country, as well as precise recommendations for overcoming the problems they face and the shortcomings of the system. Children point out several problems, including:
- the low quality of education, insufficient hygiene in schools, the lack of appropriate conditions for the inclusion of children with disabilities in the educational process,
- the lack of free time due to the excessive volume of school responsibilities,
- lack of opportunities for involvement in sports and cultural activities, especially in smaller cities and rural areas,
- high air pollution and other environmental issues that negatively affect the well-being of children,
- the prevalence of violence, and especially bullying and discrimination of children on many grounds, including age, gender, language and ethnicity,
- the need for greater care for children's mental health,
- insufficient care for street children by institutions and
- the need for greater awareness of children's rights among, both, children and adults.
