Manhood 2.0, a curriculum developed by Promundo and the University of Pittsburgh, aims at making adolescent boys and young men (ages 15-24) aware of and reflect on the implications of harmful gender norms in order to prevent teen pregnancy, dating violence, sexual assault, LGBTQ bullying, as well as ways of building healthier and harmonious relationships.
This manual was created to be used by facilitators working to implement Manhood 2.0 by engaging young men in critically discussing and challenging issues related to gender equity, violence prevention, and development of fair relationships, starting with the formation of their identities in particular contexts.
Participants are invited to meet in a safe environment, where they are encouraged to openly discuss gender beyond the rigid divisions of “male” and “female”, and work with their peers towards building healthier attitudes, behaviors, and relationships.
The Manhood 2.0 manual includes a series of sessions to enable young men to reflect and build
collective support for making positive changes in their lives.
Each session comprises a series of activities that last up to an hour to be put into practice with groups of young men and adolescent boys.
The curriculum comprises more than 25 activities that follow the next set of themes:
- Welcome
- Exploring Gender and Identity
- Exploring Power and Relationships
- Thinking about Our Emotions
- Sexual and Reproductive Health
- Violence and Relationships
- Making a Commitment to Healthy Lives
