The guide provides an overview of the basic characteristics and symptoms of abuse and neglect in children, which can be observed in daily work of health professionals, as well as a description of the process of protecting children from abuse and neglect in the health care system.

The manual should motivate every health care provider to think that the conditions, signs and symptoms observed in the child may be related to inappropriate treatment, as well as to recognize the indicators and initiate the care process.
