A Mental Health and Psychosocial Resilience Curriculum

MOVE ON & ENGAGE - an initiative of Terre des hommes - is a curriculum of 20 sessions to improve the self and collective efficacy of children and youth (12 to 20 years old), to address issues in their environment that concern them, including family, school and community, and to strengthen their psychosocial resilience.

The curriculum is divided into two parts, one part called MOVE, where six sessions are dedicated to strengthening each of the ENGAGE skills (trust, cooperation, communication, emotional management, creative thinking and responsibility), and a second part - ENGAGE, where it supports adolescents and youths to explore the concept of well-being, identify their main challenge, and select within the group one or two main challenges they would like to tackle through a youth led action; the adolescents and youth select the specific issue they want to address. This means that you can also carry out several cycles of ENGAGE with the same group of adolescents, looking at different challenges. The collective actions are also a way for adolescents to concretely practice their ENGAGE skills, from agency to empowerment.

We invite you to start by looking through the following core documents:

  • MOVE ON & ENGAGE curriculum: 20-session curriculum to guide facilitators in implementing activities that they can use to strengthen “ENGAGE skills” and support youths in using these skills in initiating collective actions to tackle the MHPSS challenges identified by them.
  • The MOVE ON & ENAGE methodological guidance was designed to help project staff to understand the MOVE ON & ENGAGE methodology and how they can use it.
  • MOVE ON & ENGAGE facilitators module: 8 modules, which besides presenting the methodology, also includes a focus on responding to diversity through a person-centered approach, supporting children and youth in meaningful participation, and engaging the community.
  • MOVE ON & ENGAGE M&E toolkit
