Racist and Faith Targeted Bullying in the UK literature review examined the existing literature on peer-on-peer racist and faith targeted bullying among children and young people in the UK. The review specifically looked at bullying through the lenses of race/ethnicity and religion.

It's important to note that despite these issues being important, the review did not look at the general prevalence of racism, xenophobia and prejudice among children and young people in the UK schools because they were beyond the scope of this targeted review.

This review was conducted in September 2020, the key findings are

  • Since 2016 (Brexit) there is a lack of research,
  • BAME groups are not more likely to be bullied than others,
  • BAME population should not be considered as one group when researching bullying,
  • Gypsy, Roma and Traveller, asylum seeker/refugee and mixed-race children are more likely to be bullied,
  • Calling is the most often reported issue,
  • Being bullied because of the child background and identity could have profound negative consequences compared to other types of bullying.
