A remote self-guided curriculum to promote adolescents' well-being

RIDE ON was developed in response to the changing needs of child protection professionals in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. It was designed to help them support children and adolescents (12–18 years old) facing anxiety, feelings of insecurity or disconnection with others through remote solutions. The objectives of this curriculum is to 'Increase the capacities and resources of children and youth to alleviate the negative mental health and psychosocial effects of the COVID context by doing self-guided exercise and engaging her/him and her/his peer in support action'. It is a remote, flexible, self-guided or accompanied curriculum that enables adolescents to take the lead in their well-being. Furthermore, it invites adolescents to make decisions concerning their next steps in completing their journeys. The book can be followed with minimum or more regular support, depending on the context and the possibility to regularly contact youth. It is adaptable to contexts where vulnerable children are isolated and hard to reach (children in detention, children on the move, etc.).

We invite you to start by looking through the following core documents:

  • An 'activity book' for adolescents: the book proposes 80 activities in 5 categories: feeling safe, feeling connected, feeling worthy, feeling respected and feeling hopeful. Each category is represented by a different youth from a different part of the world. They tell us their worries, their tips on feeling safe, connected, etc... Each character proposes different type of activities: 'reflective activities' (oriented towards thinking and introspection, with a focus on mindfulness and meditation), and ENGAGE activities (focused on physical play and exercise, linked to social activities through peer and community connections).
  • RIDE ON methodological guidance: this guidance is designed to help project staff understand the MOVE ON & ENGAGE methodology and how they can use it.
  • M&E framework and tools
