COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

WHAT WE DO IN EUROPE AND HUNGARY

Terre des hommes (Tdh) is the leading Swiss child relief agency, founded in 1960. The Headquarters (HQ) are in Lausanne. We are currently active in 30 countries (in Europe, Africa, Asia, Middle East and Latin America}. Our projects focus on child protection, mother and child health, migration, access to justice for children, and emergency relief.

Terre des hommes opened its Regional Office/ Hub in Budapest in 2006. The Regional Hub develops and implements regional projects with partners across Europe. Our regional advisors provide support to colleagues in other countries in Europe — Albania, Kosovo, Greece, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. One of our key projects for children in Hungary is the FabLab in Gyor. We also very proud of our Child Protection Hub project. We also support people who fled the war in Ukraine and are transiting or taking refuge in Hungary.

 

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Communications Officer supports the work of the Tdh Regional Hub in Hungary by playing an important role in developing Terre des hommes’ reputation in Hungary as well as in Europe, and supporting the overall communication activities on all the levels, ensuring consistency of communication across the projects and alignment with Tdh’s regional and global communication strategy.

The Communications Officer develops and publishes materials in support of Tdh’s local and global objectives.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

· Contributes to the development and implements the communication strategies and policies ensuring the coordination and harmonization of communication policies between the delegation, Multi-Country Delegation, Regional Office and HQ

· Coordinates and oversees the development and production of publications, newsletters etc.;

· Manages and regularly updates the websites and social media accounts;

· Develops, proofreads, edits communication materials – flyers, leaflets etc.;

· Targets local audiences by, for example, re/posting social media content / sharing press releases and web content as appropriate;

· Coordinates communication activities and events around the projects;

· Documents and maintains the communication materials on server;

· Undertakes field visits (upon need) to liaise with target groups and to produce case studies, press releases, etc,

· Writes and publishes press releases locally to highlight impact of programmes;

· Coordinates production of visual resources (photos, videos, etc.);

· Leads the dissemination of communication materials to relevant stakeholders (internally and externally);

· Fosters positive relations with (potential) donors; participates in donors’ visits to showcase project results once requested;

· Contributes to the presentation of best practices and lessons learned;

· Provides rapid alerts in case of media opportunities and reputational risk;

· Coaches and empowers project teams and partner organisations regarding editorial and visual guidelines;

· Develops relationships with key local media in order to position Tdh as the go-to child relief agency in the country;

· Ensures compliance with the regulations, administrative and logistics procedures at the delegation, donors and governmental requirements.

 

YOUR PROFILE

Education:

· Honours qualification an accredited educational institution in Journalism, Information Science, Communication, Marketing or related discipline;

Experience:

· Minimum 3 years of professional experience in a similar role;

· Proven experience managing content production;

· Demonstrated experience of managing social media channels;

Other requirements:

· Good technical affinity for media contexts including knowledge of a wide range of social media, multimedia, web & digital tools;

· Outstanding news writing, editing skills in English and Hungarian

· Excellent event planning skills;

· Good understanding of the country media & communications environment;

· Highly organised, with scrupulous attention to detail;

· Hands-on, proactive attitude;

· Excellent interpersonal skills with a high degree of integrity and professionalism;

· Collaborative working style: good team player but with demonstrated ability to work independently;

· Knowledge of Child Protection issues in the region is an advantage

Languages:

· Very good oral and written skills in Hungarian.

· High proficiency in English

· Knowledge of Albanian, Greek, Romanian, Serbo-Croat-Bosnian, Bulgarian, Russian or Ukrainian is an advantage
