This webinar is being organized as part of the regional project "Building Relationships through Innovative Development of Gender-Based Violence Awareness in Europe - BRIDGE" which has the aim to strengthen the statutory response to gender-based violence (GBV) affecting children and youth on the move in EU countries.
The BRIDGE project is supported by the European Union’s Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (2014-2020) and is implemented in Belgium, Greece, Hungary, Malta and Romania.
A series of webinars are being organized as part of the BRIDGE project to discuss issues of GBV and share good practices.
This webinar is a follow-up to the webinar on female genital mutilation (FGM) which was held in June 2019. This webinar will be delivered by two speakers and will this time focus specifically on the medical and psychological aspects related to the phenomenon of FGM.
In this webinar Dr Martin Caillet will adress:
- A theoretical introduction, with main medical definitions regarding FGM
- An epidemiological and historical study of FGM
- A discussion on where FGM happens now and why
- Concrete medical consequences of FGM
- Solutions for victims of FGM, types of support and multidisciplinary approach
- And a few last words on reconstructive surgery
Françoise Leroux will address the following elements:
- the articulation of the psychological aspect with the other professionals of the team (gynaecologist, midwife, sexologist): interest of multidisciplinary care
- analysis of the patient's request: where the request is located in the patient's life story, why the patient comes and how the patient is generally doing
- psychological work and social support (linked with residence status)
- which therapeutic tools should be used
