The Charter on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Action was one of the key outcomes of the World Humanitarian Summit and called for the development of guidelines on the inclusion of persons with disabilities in humanitarian action. In line with its WHS commitment, the IASC endorsed the establishment of a time bound Task Team (Jan 2017- Dec 2018) in July 2016, dedicated to the process for development and endorsement of these guidelines.  An ongoing communication and participation strategy has been developed for the guidelines’ development process which fosters engagement of diverse agencies and groups working across all sectors, including MHPSS, and in all phases of humanitarian action.  The guidelines will provide essential actions that support the full and effective participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities.

This webinar, organized by MHPSS.net, in partnership with the IASC MHPSS Reference Group, will provide a platform to learn and share experiences with two field experts, Dr. Julian Eaton and Salam Gómez. Dr. Julian Eaton will explore how the IASC guidelines can strengthen accountability to persons with disabilities in situations of risk and humanitarian emergencies, and offer key actions and considerations for inclusion of persons with disabilities in humanitarian action, with a focus on the MHPSS sector in general, and more specifically persons with mental health problems. Salam Gómez will discuss the concept of psychosocial disability, and present key principles and field experiences relevant to the full and effective participation and inclusion of persons with disability within the field of MHPSS and wider humanitarian action.
