About the webinar:
The EU Member States have been largely affected by migration over the recent years when a large number of migrants made their way to the EU, fleeing poverty and war. Children represented a large share of the population reaching Europe. In their host countries, migrant children and youth face considerable challenges in terms of education, social inclusion, and subsequent employment. The MINT project aims at supporting and facilitating the integration process of children, enhancing social relations and empowering both local youth and third-country national (TCN) children. Over its 26-month long run, by using an innovative and replicable peer-to-peer mentoring programme, the project has contributed to building more inclusive societies in the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania and Slovenia.
This webinar will present the project activities (e.g. child-led awareness-raising and advocacy activities, language learning opportunities, etc.) and outputs of MINT with a focus on the peer-to-peer mentoring programme including the main challenges (e.g. how to motivate children’s participation in online activities during a pandemic) and lessons learnt during the two mentoring cycles from which over 140 migrant children and more than 110 local youth benefitted. The Mentoring Methdology Framework, which the programme is based on and was developed at the beginning of the project and adjusted at the end of the project, will also be presented to facilitate its wider usage in other EU countries in the future.
This webinar is for individuals and organizations who are interested in migrant integration and would like to know more about a replicable mentoring programme which helps to realize migrant children’s fundamental rights in the host countries on equal terms with national children and become active and productive members of the society.
The project is funded by the Europen Union’s Asylum Migration and Integration Fund and implemented by Terre des hommes Hungary, Terre des homme Romania, Organization for Aid to Refugees, Fundacja Ocalenie, and Slovenska Filantropija between January 2019 and February 2021.
