This webinar aims at presenting the Become Safe initiative in Greece, where it has specifically targeted unaccompanied children and youth on the move, at risk of violence and exploitation.
This webinar will tackle the following points:
- Brief overview of the Greek Context and research findings
- Presentation of the project and its adaptation to the Greek Context: approach and main activities
- Focus on the training with professionals: Thematic, Methodology and Approach
- Youth Facilitators
- Consultations with children to identify main forms of violence
The overall objective of BECOME SAFE is to improve the protection of migrant children and young people victims or at risk of violence, and uphold their rights to assistance and quality victims care in the EU. To achieve this, the project deploys three complementary strategies to promote systemic and sustainable improvements in the protection of children and youth on the move. It does so through working hand in hand with children and young people themselves, as well as professionals in contact with them.
Speakers
Nantina Tsekeri
Nantina Tsekeri is a human rights lawyer with an academic and practical specialization on refugee law and International Human Rights Law. She is a strong advocate and strategic litigator for the rights of children on the move before EU Human Rights Organs and the UN. In 2019 Nantina was awarded with the prestigious CHILD10 Swedish Award for her commitment and work with the refugee children ‘With her strong child-rights perspective she is a role-model for children’s rights advocates and lawyers all over the world’ https://child10.org/nantina-tsekeris/ .
In 2016, she founded the Greek Section of the International Non Governmental Organization ‘Defence for Children International –Greece (DCI-Greece)’ which offers direct holistic protection services to the children and youth on the move, as well as, research, advocacy and capacity building services to other professionals. She is currently the Vice President of the European Child Friendly Justice Network.
Iris Pappa
Iris Pappa works at the Organization Defence for Children International Greece (DCI-Greece) as the Coordinator of the Children’s Rights Helpdesk which offers protection services, legal counseling and representation to children and youth on the move and in urgent need. Before joining DCI Greece she was working in the third sector, the field of human rights while she has a strong background in research deriving from her working experience as a research assistant in different centers. She holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law with a focus on Refugee Law and Children Rights. Iris has been selected by the school of Law of Glasgow University to be part of their digital exhibition – 100 Voices for 100 Years -which features the voices of 100 women, who have graduated from the University of Glasgow, the last 100 years, for her outstanding and impactful work in the refugee field.
Anthi Materi, Lawyer, attended the Training for Professionals
Anthi is a Lawyer. She is specialized in legal representation of children and youth during asylum and criminal proceedings. She will give a brief overview of her profile, why she decided to take part in the training and will shed a light on the activities that took place in the course of the project, and the key takeaways.
