About the webinar:          

The webinar presentation will describe briefly the Romanian juvenile justice system focusing more on the diversion.

In the first part, Dr. Ioan Durnescu will present the relevant legislation applicable to juveniles. Then, he will move on to describe the institutional landscape relevant to juveniles in conflict with the law.

The last part of his discussion will make a critical analysis on the Romanian system by comparing and contrasting the Romanian system with the European standards. Some recommendations will be also formulated as a way of concluding.

About the presenter:

Dr. Ioan DURNESCU is professor at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Sociology and Social Work. He teaches and conducts research in the area of probation and prison fields. His special interest is comparative probation. He is one of the editors of the Probation in Europe (WOLF) and the Understanding penal practice (Routledge).

Ioan Durnescu is also co-editor of the European Journal of Probation, a journal published by the University of Bucharest in partnership with SAGE Publishing.

He is also member in a number of prestigious organizations: he is honorary member of the Confederation of European Probation (CEP) and also a former chair of the Community Sanctions and Measures Working Group within the European Society of Criminology.

He is one of the authors of the Romanian chapter on the juvenile justice in Romania.
