UN: 23,000 child refugees risk death in Europe cold snap

PressTV reports that "The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has warned that more than 23,000 child refugees are at risk of respiratory infections and death due to the cold spell that has gripped Europe. An estimated 23,700 refugee children, including infants and newborns, remain stranded in Greece and the Balkans, where temperatures in some parts fall below minus 20 degrees Celsius. More than 70 people have been killed in the recent cold snap in the continent as heavy snow further blankets eastern European countries, where many refugees are living in already poor conditions."

According to the latest Tdh Global Surveillance Report, during November 2016, the number of persons seeking international protection kept rising. IOM reports 374’037 arrivals in Europe in 2016. This number includes 350’573 arrivals by sea and 23’464 by land (that were not reported by UNHCR). IOM reports a daily average number of people arriving in Greece in November of 103.

Through a Megaphone: A short movie for the big rights (Video)

The Bulgarian National Network for Children and their youth network "Megaphone" produced this film. The young people took on the writing of the script and deciding on messages they wanted professionals, adults working with children to hear. The video was produced with the support of Terre des hommes.

How to ensure the best interests of children victims of sexual abuse? ChildHub training in Budapest

December 21-22 2016, Budapest, Hungary: 18 legal professionals from eight South East European countries came together to dsicuss how children victims of violence could be better protected after their disclosure. The group included prosecutors, lawyers, psychologists and police representatives who shared their own perspectives from their countries and their professions. The training was led by Ms. Lana Peto, judge from Croatia and Ms. Eva Kerpel, mediator in child abduction cases.
