Balkan Insight reports that even if Germany declared Albania safe country last year, the number of Albanians seeking asylum rose this summer hitting 1390 in July and 1635 in August, from 825 in March. 890 citizens of Macedonia sought asylum in Germany in September for the first time, while 565 people from Kosovo did so."The instinct for survival is stronger than the power of reason.

European Social Network's seminar on the social services workforce: 15 -16 November

The seminar takes place on 15-16 November in Bratislava, Slovakia, in cooperation with the Slovak Presidency of the EU.

The programme sees European experts, policymakers, local, national and regional governments, social workers and social carers coming together to discuss the planning, and management of social services.

Social Norms, Social Change I [Free online course]

The University of Pennslyvania and UNICEF are providing a course on the fundamentals of social norms and social change.The course will teach how to diagnose social norms, and how to distinguish them from other social constructs, like customs or conventions. In addition the course teaches how to measure social norms and the expectations that support them, and how to decide whether they cause specific behaviors and the variety of tools policy makers use to effect change.
