A transnational meeting took place online on 8 July 2020 between Romanian and Spanish education and social inclusion professionals as part of the MISTO AVILEAN regional project. More than 40 professionals took part in the meeting with participants’ profiles ranging from inspectors and school principles to teachers from high schools and general schools. This exchange session with professionals aims to facilitate the reintegration of Roma students in Spain who are mainly from Romania or those who have been in the Spanish educational system and have returned to Romania. The professionals who participated in the meeting have students with these types of profiles, these students usually attend centers hosting a high percentage of migrant students and/or with difficult socioeconomic situations (some of centers have only Roma students).

The lively exchange between participants was very fruitful and focused on how to improve the relationship between schools and Roma families, the support that is required and available for students, families, and schools to back the educational processes of these children and the difficulties that need to be overcome especially in the migration processes of the students.

This meeting constitutes an important step in the development and fostering of the transnational cooperation mechanism which aims to support education professionals and institutions in places of origin and destination of Roma families on the move to ensure non-disruptive education for Roma children.

A second meeting is planned to be held in fall of this year and will focus on teacher training and tools to manage diversity in the classroom as well as on the cooperation mechanism.
