Remote education is difficult to adapt for schools and the most essential to meet students’ needs and make education as simple as possible. Please find below some suggestions from the various school solutions:

  • Designing activities that are accessible for pupils: Not every student has a sufficient background for online learning, so it's important to send them the material in a format that they can access. The majority have mobile devices and not laptops. Keep in midnd online safety and find a way to check that students do what they are asked to.   
  • Ensuring remote education practices are inclusive: It is important to consider students with special needs, whether these methods meet their needs and not to let them left behind in learning. Students with individual needs may receive regular phone calls from specialists to support their learning.
  • Using existing technology: Schools prefer technology that students and teachers are familiar with because it makes the shift easier, and they will use them on a regular basis. 
  • Providing training: Many people need additional help to use online tools properly. Schools should provide training and peer-to-peer support for both teachers and students.
  • Keeping a focus on effective teaching practice: Online teaching needs new methods and teachers need several ways to explain things and help students to understand the material. Fundamentally, classroom teaching and online teaching has a lot in common, but there are significant differences. For example, online teaching lacks the possibility of regular feedback and active participation during lessons.
  • Feedback and assessment: Monitoring students’ achievement is also problematic using quizzes, digital tools and modelling of good answers can help. This way teachers can give feedback that is essential for students to improve their skills. 
  • Allowing variation across your school: In primary school pupils are heavily dependant on parents, but in high school, students can learn more individually. The amount of need for contact is also subject-dependant.
