The Hungarian Safer Internet Centre published a new short video on online bullying as part of the European Union Better Internet for Kids programme. The aim of the programme is to enable children with creative learning methods to learn how to use responsbily and safely the internet. Plot description
In the video two teenagers, Ádam and Lilla, are invited for casting where they only have to read out loud their messages to each other. The conversation starts off with Lilla joining a new group and making a friendly first move to connect with the other members of the group. However, the friendly chat quickly turns into hurtful words, as Lilla shares an information that one of the group members did not appriciate. With placing the conversation offline, the aim of the video is to raise awareness about how teenagers are more likely to say hurtful things to each other online that they otherwise would not say to another person. The story ends with Ádám apalogising for his behaviour and realising that he did not think through the real meaning of his message.
The goal was not to discourage teenagers from using online chat applications, rather to encourage them to be more thoughtful with their words and instead of hurting each other, explore the opportunity of making new friendships online.
