The students of the FabLab Salt spre Viitor from Târgu Ocna (Bacău County), will make several hundred textile protective masks for themselves and their fellow students, as well as teachers at the three educational institutions benefiting from the project. This is only one example of the kind of product that can be made in this space for educational purposes, but it is certainly one of the most useful in the current context.
In October 2020, the Terre des hommes Foundation launched the FabLab Salt Spre Viitor project during an online press conference, which was attended by representatives of the Foundation and the three educational institutions that will benefit from the project. The project manager announced that the beneficiaries would learn how to operate the technology needed to create these masks
A total of 100 young people from the local educational center, students from the technological high school and the Agent Training School will be able to attend the courses at this Fab Lab. Currently, teachers are being trained, and it is hoped that students will be able to take part in the project from December, depending on the threat of the pandemic in the area. When possible, groups of students from these three categories will be organized separately for classes that will be capped at 10 students per classroom to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The FabLab was originally created by the Terre des hommes Foundation as part of a larger project to rehabilitate and reintegrate minors in educational or detention centers, but the concept has been expanded to include students from the Technological High School and those from the School of Agent Training. Young people in the Educational Center between the ages of 14 and 23, especially need additional education to succeed in their reintegration after release. The project is funded by the Fondation Botnar (Switzerland).
