The Terre des hommes Foundation aims to change the future of 200 young people and raises funds for the 2020 edition of the Bucharest Swimathon until July 10. These teenagers (girls and boys) are currently in detention in Craiova and have problems with emotional balance, are struggling with lack of education and lack of perspective. The foundation wants to help these minors develop emotional and social skills and build a future.

"Sport and play save the future of young people" is the cause that Terre des hommes Romania supports at the online edition of Swimathon Bucharest in July this year and this convinced the Swiss footballer Roman Bürki, goalkeeper at Borussia Dortmund, to publish a message that encourages fans to donate. Here is what he wrote:

”Last year, when I visited the Terre des hommes projects in Romania, I was really impressed by the hard and wonderful work they do for vulnerable children. Now Terre des hommes raises funds to buy sports equipment for children in detention in Romania and organize sports activities for them. Sports and games will help rehabilitate these children, improve their emotional state and social skills. I truly believe in the immense power of sport to change people for the better. So I encourage you to donate any amount for this cause. ”

You can donate until July 10 any amount directly on the project page on the Swimathon Bucharest website by card (any currency) here or by bank transfer.

The time minors spend in detention should be a preparation for reintegration into society. Instead, their psychological and social needs are not being addressed and the pandemic has exacerbated the situation. Through the MJS (Movement, Game and Sport) methodology tested by Terre des hommes internationally in conflict areas, the staff will help these young people to manage emotions, conflicts and gain confidence.

Each amount means a major contribution to the future of 200 young people. The Swimathon campaign has a tradition in Bucharest and since 2013 has raised over 500,000 euros for 150 projects. For the Terre des hommes Foundation it is the first participation in the Swimathon. Roman Bürki is also the ambassador of the Terre des hommes.
