Romania is set to implement a national IT system for child adoptions, the country's government announced on 17 September. The project, which costs around 9.7 million euros, is part of Romania's 2020 National Digital Agenda Strategy. It aims to simplify administrative procedures for child adoption and protection, and facilitate communication with institutions dealing with the adoption system. According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Justice, the National IT System for Adoptions (SINA) will not only assist potential foster or adoptive parents with updated information on the latest procedures, regulations and policies as part of the adoption process, but will also offer a series of e-services that will make their communication with adoption agencies easier.
Furthermore, the system introduces a help-desk online platform, which will facilitate access to downloading and uploading forms in order to reduce the processing time for adoption requests, and assist in determining the best adoption matches. SINA will offer support in all stages of adoption processes, including post-adoption monitoring.
The development of this project is financed by non-refundable grants and the joint budgets of the Romanian Ministry of Labour and Social Justice, and the Ministry of Communications.
