The Institute for the Fight against Addiction records an increasing number of alcohol addicts, which increased significantly during the coronavirus pandemic, but also cases of domestic violence caused by alcohol consumption. It is encouraging that many seek help arbitrarily or by court order.
This month, the Institute for the Fight against Addiction Diseases of the Zenica-Doboj Canton celebrates 15 years of establishment and work, and December is marked as the month of addiction prevention.
The pandemic period was extremely challenging for the institution, which had to maintain the quality of services, but also adapt to the conditions of the pandemic, respecting the orders of the crisis headquarters, but the services were not interrupted at any time, but were carried out according to special protocols and procedures.
"We are aware at all times that the Institute's patients are a high-risk group, with a weakened immune system and thus risky both for themselves and for the Institute's employees. Unfortunately, cases of domestic violence caused by alcoholism have also been reported on the hotline, but in the past period, the courts have issued a number of decisions on the measure of compulsory treatment for alcohol due to domestic violence.
Numerous citizens asked for information about the application for alcohol treatment through the sauce line, how to motivate a family member to apply for treatment, but also to report undesirable behaviors.
The total number of registered patients in the Institute for Addiction Diseases of the ZDK since its establishment is 1,561, of which heroin 930, alcohol addicts 394 and 235 addicts for some other addictions.
