A campaign by the National Police Chiefs Council and The Children's Society has been launched in the UK. Its goal is to ask delivery drivers, postal workers and concerned neighbours to help fight against child abuse.

The campaign is called 'Know, Look, Act' and it draws the attention of adults to learn from the signs of abuse and to report if there is a problem to safeguarding professionals, the police or the NSPCC.

Covid-19 created a situation, where abuse became undetected, because children stayed mostly at home without the supervision of teachers, or social workers. They also may be exploited by criminal gangs.

Here is the list of signs of an abused child:

  • Guarded behaviour around specific people
  • Unexpected behaviour
  • Physical signs like bruises
  • Anxious or frightened children
  • Noticing violence towards a kid
  • Seeing drugs
  • Children arriving in different times, with various cars
  • If the child visits a house alone where only adults live

According to the program's manager a pizza delivery driver, gas engineer or a worried neighbour can help a lot to recognise abuse and to help children.
