Schools can make a big difference in a life of a migrant child, as well as the host community. Through education it is possible to identify the needs of migrant children and communities and respond adequately. Education enables migrant children to become productive members of a new society and especially benefits those who had bad experience with education systems in their home countries. This in turn contributes to the integration of migrant communities in the host country. In addition, being exposed to diversity makes hosting community more openminded, tolerant and inclusive. In this document authors examine the UK`s education system, analyzing school practices, aiming to identify examples of good practices in all areas of learning and school life in general.
The study analyzes the context of integration of migrant pupils in the UK system, from education policies to the EU approach, school and classroom interventions, teachers and involvement of parents. Authors outlined research findings related to the needs of migrant children and their families, schools` integration approaches and practices, welcoming and settling migrant pupils, as well as pupils experience. Finally, a set of recommendations and policy implications has been provided, as well as case studies focusing on some of the key schools included in the research.
