This news is about the Parliament report which covers assessing the 2011 EU Anti-trafficking Directive and calling for more robust measures against all forms of trafficking with focusing on protecting women, children, and migrants.

According to the report, the victims of trafficking face various forms of exploitation such as labor exploitation, forced begging, forced, sham marriage, forced criminality, the selling of babies, organ removal, or illegal adoption. Among them, the most prevalent one is sexual exploitation which predominantly affects asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants, especially women and unaccompanied minors. Even, some group of victimizes such as LGBTI people, persons with disabilities, and people from racialized groups including Roma are often overlooked.

Co-rapporteurs, Juan Fernando López Aguilar (S&D, ES) and Maria Soraya Rodriguez Ramos (Renew, ES) emphasized the importance of revising the anti-trafficking directive and called attention to the role of online tools in the COVID-19 crisis.

warns that the situation of trafficked victims has worsened since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis and denounces the increase in online advertisements featuring victims of trafficking and the demand for child pornography.
